The Southern Tier is comprised of 8 counties, spanning 26 cities or villages. This region generally encompass localities in counties surrounding the Binghamton and Elmira-Corning metropolitan areas. This region is bordered to the south by the Northern Tier of Pennsylvania and both these regions together are known as the Twin Tiers. Southern Tier Region is four hours from New York City, three hours from Niagara Falls, two hours from Rochester, and four hours from Philadelphia. According to the 2010 census, the Elmira, Horseheads, Corning area has a population of 187,820.
From the wine tours to the restaurant scene, the Southern Tier gives a variety of local culture that provides a wonderful pace of lively entertainment and growth. Between the festivals and community events, there is always something new to discover.
